The newly released Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5 and Compressor 4 are not compatible with all pro macs. The system requirements mention an OpenCL capable graphics card with more than 128 MB of VRAM.
Apple released a Technote with an overview of the affected graphics cards and Mac models. While one expects to see integrated and low cost graphics cards on this list, it comes as a surprise to see some older, but still high end machines and graphics cards affected:
- Mac Pro (ATI Radeon X1900 XT, ATI Radeon HD2600 XT, nVidia Quadro FX 4500).
- MacBook Pro (nVidia GeForce 8600M GT, ATI Mobility Radeon X1600).
Also, it is not clear exactly how the products are affected, do they refuse to run, or do they run albeit more slowly?
